Educating the Public about fire and life safety continues to be a major objective for PFRA. This is accomplished through PFRA's involvement in fire safety-related community events and health and safety fairs. PFRA Volunteers provided over 120 hours of service related to the support of these programs since it's inception.

Health and Safety Fairs
PFRA was involved with numerous health and safety fairs throughout 2003. PFRA volunteers assist the Plano Fire Department at these functions by giving apparatus tours, answering questions about fire safety and promoting the Citizens Fire Academy. PFRA volunteers also play Sparky at these events.

Kids Night Out
On Friday, October 31, Plano sponsored their safe Halloween alternative at the Plano Market Square Mall. Members of PFRA assisted the fire department by manning tables, passing out candy, helping with games and ensuring that a safe environment was maintained.

Very Special Arts Festival
The Very Special Arts Festival provides the opportunity for children and adults with disabilities to both showcase their achievements in the arts and to be exposed to new experiences in the visual and performing arts. The event is sponsored by The Classics and the Plano Parks and Recreation Department.

For the past several years, the Plano Fire Department has supported the Very Special Arts Festival in several ways. The Department's clowns are showcased, the Children's Fire Safety House is toured, and an arts and crafts table is staffed by either PFD personnel or volunteers from the Plano Fire Rescue Associates.

National Night Out
Members of PFRA were asked to assist in National Night Out festivities as needed. This year the event is scheduled for Tuesday August 3, 2004. For more information visit the National Night Out website.
