It is called the toughest two minutes in Sports. It is televised nationally on ESPN. We have a team of high quality athletes right here in Plano that participate in this event. What is it? The Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge attracts hundreds of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments each year at more than 25 locations and is seen by more than 30 million people worldwide. The Challenge seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's rigors to the public. Wearing "full bunker gear" and the SCOTT Air-Pak breathing apparatus, pairs of competitors simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked series of five tasks including climbing the 5 story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life sized, 175 lb. "victim" as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock.

The 2003 Combat Challenge Team participated in the World Challenge XII Championships in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. This was the 7th consecutive trip to the World Championships by the team. The team finished 27th overall out of 72 teams that competed over the 5-day competition. All in all a good showing at the World event, the team had to work thru some injuries this season but managed to pull it together for another consistent showing at the elite level of The Firefighter Combat Challenge World Championships. PFRA provides financial assistance to cover the costs associated with participating in these events.
