Designed for adults to learn more about how the fire department is organized and operates, the Citizens Fire Academy (CFA) is open to persons 18 and older who either live or work in the City of Plano. The ten-week class meets one night a week from 6:00 to 9:00 p,m. at the Fire Administration building on Avenue K. Each night, CFA participants learn about different aspects of the fire department, ranging from emergency medical services to hiring and training fire fighters to special rescue operations. During the ten week class, CFA participants also are invited to spend time at fire stations and riding on the engines to emergency calls.

Since the majority of PFRA members have completed the Citizen's Fire Academy program and most new members of PFRA come from the CFA program, PFRA is a major supporter of this program. We assist PFD in preparing and delivering these courses. Others activities include hosting a cookout associated with the activity field day, assisting with the various activities presented at the activity field day and supporting the graduation ceremony.

PFRA volunteers provide over 100 hours of service related to the Citizens Fire Academy. Click here to learn more about the Plano Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy program.
